new Year New Me Morning Routine
Pre-covid life my morning routine looked all like a movie scene (think The Devil Wear Prada) where the girl grudges at the sound of her alarm clock going off at 5:45 am, throws the covers over her head in outrage that she has to be up so damn early, does 30 things in 30 minutes (shower, hair, makeup, tries on 5 different blazers, watches the news, face-times her husband, irons her suit) and then rushes out the door, runs back in realizing she left her phone then finally makes it into an uber and chugs overpriced hotel water while reading through her 55 new emails as she watches the clock praying she will make it to her 8:20 am meeting on time. HECTIC AF.
So, you can only imagine what a change in pace working from home has been for me. At first, I didn’t really know what to do myself, I didn’t know how to manage all this extra time I had. I would wake up at 7, lounge for two hours, start work at 9, and then proceed to spend the rest of my day laying in bed, looking like a hobo and staring at my screen all day – it started to drive me bonkers and also made me really depressed.
So at the end of May, I decided I needed to bring some discipline back into my life and got serious about finding a WFH morning routine that would get me out of my self-imposed rut and make me feel like I was ready to take on my day. I surprisingly have always had a thing for reading and watching videos on successful people’s morning routines so I already had a list of tasks I wanted to try to incorporate into mine. After some trial and error, I am finally really loving my mornings and wanted to share it with the world because it makes me feel so good and maybe it can help you get some structure & mental clarity in your mornings.

Gratitude First
I’ve always considered being an all-around grateful person but after reading The Four Agreements, (highly recommend), I realized I needed to take a more intentional approach. One of my favorite ways has been to practice gratitude as soon as I wake up. The first thing I do while my eyes are barely even open is say in my head 3 things that I am grateful for 3 times. This simple little action automatically puts me in the right headspace and sets a positive tone for the rest of my morning.
Scroll
I know this is what pretty much every guru of success tells you not to do but I honestly don’t care, it works for me! Another probably unpopular opinion I actually find social media really inspiring. While scrolling Instagram I will get ideas for future content, see a cute outfit I want to try, or find my next home project on Pinterest. Getting a dose of inspiration first thing in the morning makes me excited to get up and get to work. I also take this time to answer DM’s, share links, and connect with you guys which I love!
Stretch
A habit I learned from my amazing mom (thanks, mami <3), there are SO many amazing benefits to stretching first thing in the morning. It’s essential for waking up your body, kick-starting your energy levels, and does wonder for your circulation.
Move my body
Exercise and I have not had the most stable relationship, but I’ve realized that it’s just something I need to do daily to stay sane and feel good. But I’m NGL, getting up every day and working out is a struggle! One thing I have found that has really helped me get it done is putting on my workout clothes right when I get out of bed. Once I am no longer in my soft, comfy pj’s and instead in a sports bra and leggings, I’ve sent my brain a message that the workout is happening and it’s harder to talk myself out of it. Sounds silly, but it works – trust! My favorite at-home-workouts are from (channel).
Lemon Water
Once I’m in my workout ensemble, I make my way to the kitchen where I have a tall glass of warm or lemon water. It’s SO hydrating, and it wakes me up more than a cup of coffee ever could and has way more health benefits. Drinking lemon water in the morning helps boost your immune system, increases brain and nerve function, and acts as a natural detox. It feels so good knowing that I’m starting my morning drinking something that’s really benefiting my body.
Meditate
If you are rolling your eyes into Mars right now, trust me I understand! I also used to roll my eyes at people who swore by meditating in the mornings. But after hearing Jen Sincero go on and on about how it would change my life, I decided to give it a shot. Now I’m also one of those people who swear by morning mediations. It’s one of those things that until you don’t really give it a chance and put effort into doing it every day you won’t get. But once you do you won’t want to go without it. It’s a powerful tool that I use to center my thoughts, set my intentions for the day, and manifest my dreams. It’s also done wonders for my anxiety. I’m much more into action-based meditations and cannot get enough of the Mimi Method. Her mediations are so powerful & and all about training your mind to be disciplined and becoming the person you need to be to reach your goals.
